Beaune – The Heart of Burgundy

Wines from the French region of Burgundy are some of the most sought after in the world and have always been favourites of both Brien and I. We invite you to join us in the charming town of Beaune in the fall of 2026 so that we might share what makes this region so special.

This will be a deep dive into the great wines of Burgundy with visits to a full range of estates from the most famous to rising stars that offer amazing value. We will work together to make sense of the many appellations that make up the Côte d’Or, visiting wineries in both the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. A visit to the newly opened wine museum, Cité des Climats et Vins de Bourgogne, will help set the stage to understanding the complexity of these famed vineyards and the outstanding wines they produce.

We will stay at our preferred boutique hotel in the heart of Beaune, Le Clos Sainte-Marguerite. This Michelin recommended hotel has a near perfect score, 19.9 out of 20. A small but impressive location in a 14th century house with large rooms lovingly and uniquely decorated. Every morning will begin with a delicious breakfast of high-quality local ingredients so that we are well fuelled for a full day of wine tasting.

Our time in Beaune begins with a visit at Maison Joseph Drouhin. The Drouhin family have an amazing history and own some of Burgundy’s most famous vineyards. We will visit their ancient cellars, hear the fascinating stories that this family has to share, and taste their exceptional wines. You may wish to read “Wine and War” to learn some of the fascinating history of Maurice Drouhin, the grandfather of the current generation running the winery.

The week will be filled with visits to other Burgundy wineries, spending time in the famous villages of Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Aloxe Corton and others. For those who wish, there will be a day of e-biking between the villages to gain a better sense of the vineyards and the ever-so important slope inclinations.

Beaune itself is a beautiful village and a walking tour with a visit to the famed Hospice de Beaune is a must. This iconic structure was the town’s former hospital and one of the most beautiful buildings in the region. Another not-to-be-missed experience, is a quick visit at Moutarderie Edmond Fallot, the last mustard producer to still be making mustard in the traditional way. Market Day in Beaune is Saturday in the Place Carnot. Shop for heritage linens or antique silverware. Or just people watch, which is always a fun way to pass the time in France.

Some of the finest wines in the world come from Burgundy. In particular, the region is unparalleled in the production of great Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines. You will enjoy unique and exclusive experiences with 5 night’s accommodations, ground transportation once you arrive at the Beaune train station, all meals including Michelin recommended restaurants, tastings and tours included.
